CBA Fall Picnic
"Ice Cream Sociable"
(11:00 am)
Come join other CBA families for a time of informal fellowship,
"picnic-ing" and fun. Get a chance to meet other CBA parents
and kids. We will meet at Schooley Mills Park in Highland,
MD at 11 am. on Wednesday, September 8th. Bring your lunch
and drinks, but don’t pack dessert! We will provide ice
cream for all interested kids and parents. The picnic will
be cancelled in the event of rain. You can call the CBA
office or watch the website that morning if you aren’t sure.
Call or register on-line so we can be sure to have enough
ice cream! The park is a great place for bicycles, rollerblades,
tennis, volleyball, Frisbee and more. There is a large playground
area. Schooley Mills Park is located about ½ mile west of
the intersection of Rt. 126 and Hall Shop Road just south
of Columbia(see map on back). So, grab the whole family,
load up the food, sunscreen, and favorite play equipment
& come on down!
CBA Elementary
"Wednesday Classes"
(1:15 - 3:30 pm.)
3 LOCATIONS
(Art, Phys. Ed & Science Classes)
This year’s CBA elementary group classes offer art, science
and phys. ed. for enrolled students in grades K through
6th. These classes are designed to provide a group time
where each child’s experience is fun and rewarding. It is
a time where CBA students can build friendships, learn new
skills and just plain have fun. The programs are similar
at all three locations on the first and third Wednesdays
of each month starting on Sept. 17th - from 1:15 - 3:30
p.m.
The cost is only $5 per day, per child. This fee covers
all three classes and materials. The group class fee will
be billed on your monthly summary only for days your children
attend. Please sign in each time you attend the Wednesday
Classes.
Upper Mont. Co. Classes
These classes are offered at Cedarbrook Church in
Clarksburg .
Lower Mont. Co. Classes
These classes are offered at the First Alliance
Church in Silver Spring.
Howard Co. Classes
These classes are offered at the Linthicum Methodist
Church in Clarksburg - just across the street from last
year’s classes.

Field Trips & Events
#1
Field Trip to The Port Discovery
- Friday, September 19th -
(Meet at 12:30 pm.)
Students from pre-K through 6th grade will enjoy this
field trip! Spend the afternoon climbing on a 3 ½ story
jungle gym, solving the mystery of Miss Perception’s House,
discover the wonders of water, explore ancient Egypt and
learn to "serve up" in a bustling diner. We were able to
get tickets at a special school rate for this wonderful
Children’s Museum. The cost is only $3 per student 2 yrs
old to grade 6 and $8.75 for adults and students grade 7
and older. (Regular admission price is $11.75 per person.)
Space is limited so, as always, sign up early. To sign up

Field Trip to The
Baltimore Zoo
- Tuesday, September 23rd -
(Meet at 9:30 a.m.)
The Baltimore Zoo is considered one of the nation’s best
child-friendly zoos. This is a great family field trip for
all enrolled CBA families especially as everyone gets in
FREE (normal entry fees are $9 children, $11 adults and
children 12 and over). Come and meet Baby Sampson the new
baby elephant and see the polar bears and snow leopards,
emus and wallabies, elephants and flamingos, hippos and
reptiles and lots, lots more. The Baltimore Zoo is stroller
friendly. You can bring a picnic lunch or you can purchase
food there.
This field trip is geared for enrolled students, parents
and siblings of all ages.

Field Trip St. Michael’s Island
- Friday, October 10th -
(Meet at 10:00 or 12:30)
Come with us and explore the bounty of the Chesapeake
Bay through the eyes of the many folks who work the bay
year-round harvesting crabs, oysters, eels and fish. At
Waterman’s Wharf, try "hand tonging" for oysters, bait
eel pots and set a crab pot. Board an oyster dredge boat
and lend a hand hoisting the sail. We will visit the
waterfowl exhibit and learn how migratory waterfowl
provide a livelihood for many people in the Chesapeake
region. The cost is only $4 per student (preschoolers
are free but are not actively involved in the above
hands-on activities). Adult tickets are $8. Two
identical tours are being offered-one begins in the
morning and the other just after lunch time.

The field trip is appropriate for students of all ages.

The Annual High School Bonfire
- Saturday, October 11th -
(6:30 pm.)
Enrolled high school students - mark your calendars!
Come eat, play and meet some CBA friends both old and new.

The PSAT/ National Merit Scholarship Exam
- Wednesday, October 15th -
(Arrive at 8:30 a.m.)
Enrolled high school students in grades 10 and 11 who
wish to take the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying
Test through CBA must sign up by September 26th. Details
will be sent out to all those who register. The test will
be given in the gymnasium at First Alliance Church. The
cost is $20.
The PSAT/National Merit Scholar-ship Qualifying Test is
a practice test for the SAT College Admission Test and is
used to qualify students in grade 11 for National Merit
Scholarships.
We have a limited number of tests so sign up early to assure

Field Trip to Sharp’s Farm
- Monday, October 20th -
(Meet at 1:00 pm.)
This field trip is geared for students of all ages. Students
in pre-K through 2nd grade will enjoy "A Day in the Life
of a Farmer" where they will learn about farm animals, bee
keeping and farm crops. They will take a hayride to a huge
pumpkin patch and popcorn field where each student can chose
a pumpkin and an ear of popcorn from the stalk to take home
(cost is $6.50 per person in this group). Grades 3 and up
will "hayride up" to a nature trail where they will see
and learn about farm crops, natural resources, conservation
and stream-side ecology. They will also visit the pumpkin
patch and popcorn field where each student can chose a pumpkin
and an ear of popcorn. This group will also have a chance
to run the mini-corn maze (cost is $7 per person in this
group). Both tours will take about 1 ½ hours. The farm is
located in Howard Co. about 7 miles north of Olney just
off Georgia Ave. (Route 97). To sign up, call the CBA office
