CBA Fall Picnic
"Ice Cream Sociable"
- Tuesday, September 8th -(11:00 am)
Come join other CBA families for a time of informal
fellowship, "picnic-ing" and fun. Get a chance to meet
other CBA parents and kids. We will meet at Schooley
Mills Park in Highland, MD at 11 a.m. on Tuesday,
September 8th. Bring your lunch and drinks, but don’t
pack dessert! We will provide ice cream for all
interested kids and parents. The picnic will be
cancelled in the event of rain. You can call the CBA
office or watch the website that morning if you aren’t
sure. Call or
register online so we can be sure
to have enough ice cream!
The park is a great place for bicycles, rollerblades,
tennis, volleyball, frisbie and more. There is a large
playground area.
Schooley Mills Park is located about ½ mile west of
the intersection of Rt. 126 and Hall Shop Road just
south of Columbia(see map on back).
So, grab the whole family, load up the food,
sunscreen, and favorite play equipment & come on down!
CBA Elementary "Wednesday Classes"
(1:15 - 3:30 pm.)
3 LOCATIONS
(Art, Phys. Ed & Introducing "Flat Stanley" Classes)
This year’s CBA elementary group classes offer art,
phys. ed. and "Flat Stanley" for enrolled students in
grades K through 6th. These classes are designed to
provide a group time where each child’s experience is
fun and rewarding. It is a time where CBA students can
build friendships, learn new skills and just plain have
fun. The programs are similar at all three locations on
the first and third Wednesdays of each month starting on
Sept. 16th - from 1:15 - 3:30 p.m.
The cost is only $5 per day, per child. This fee covers
all three classes and materials. The group class fee
will be billed on your monthly summary only for days
your children attend. Please sign in each time you
attend the Wednesday Classes.
Upper Mont. Co. Classes
These classes are offered at Cedarbrook Church in
Clarksburg (click for map).
Lower Mont. Co. Classes
These classes are offered at First Alliance Church in
Silver Spring (click for map).
Howard Co. Classes
These classes are offered at the Linden-Linthicum United
Methodist Church in Clarksburg (click for map).

Field Trips & Events

Field Trip to The Baltimore Zoo
- Tuesday, September 22nd -
(Meet at 9:30 a.m.)
The Baltimore Zoo is considered one of the nation’s best
child-friendly zoos. This is a great family field trip
for students, parents and siblings of all enrolled CBA
families, especially as everyone gets in FREE (normal
entry fees are $9 children, $11 adults and children 12
and over). Come and see the new prairie dog exhibit and
the improved children’s park. See the polar bears and
snow leopards, emus and wallabies, elephants and
flamingos, hippos and reptiles and lots, lots more. The
Baltimore Zoo is stroller friendly. You can bring a
picnic lunch or you can purchase food there. Reservations are required. To sign up just call the CBA

CBA Assembly
"Wildlife Adventures"
- Wednesday, September 30th -
(Doors open at 12:45 p.m.) This CBA Assembly will introduce the students to some
real live animals up close and personal. The presenter
will discuss lessons we can learn from animals like
orderliness, self control, and more. The field trip is
appropriate for students of all ages but geared for
students pre-K to 6th grade. CBA will present this
assembly at the First Alliance Church on New Hamphsire
Ave. The cost is $4 per person ( 4yrs. or older). To register please call the CBA office or

Field Trip to
The Gettysburg Battlefield
- Monday, October 12th -
(Meet at 9:30 a.m. ) Come and join us for a self-guided tour and visit to the
Gettysburg Battlefield. We will see the new visitor’s
center with a beautifully produced introductory movie, a
new museum and a renovated cyclorama. Families can tour
the battlefield with or without an audio CD guide. The
CD is optional and costs $19.95. Please indicate your
desire to purchase when registering.
This family field trip is geared for folks of all ages.
We are working to set up a special ranger-led program
for about 50 of our students in grades 4 through 12.
This program would require some pre-field trip
preparation and would require the group to be off with
the rangers and a CBA staff member for about 1½ hours.
More details are available for interested families.
The cost is $5 per person 5 years old and up (regular
cost is $6.50 per student and $10 per adult).To register

The PSAT/ National Merit Scholarship Exam
- Wednesday, October 14th -
(Arrive at 8:30 a.m.)
Enrolled high school students in grades 10 and 11 who
wish to take the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship
Qualifying Test through CBA must sign up by September
24th. Details will be sent out to all those who
register. The test will be given in the gymnasium at
First Alliance Church. The cost is $25.
The PSAT/National Merit Scholar-ship Qualifying Test
is a practice test for the SAT College Admission Test
and is used to qualify students in grade 11 for National
Merit Scholarships.
We have a limited number of tests so sign up early to
ensure a spot. To sign up or if you have questions, call

The Annual
High School Bonfire
- October 17th -
(6:30 pm.)
Enrolled high school students - mark your calendars!
Come eat, play and meet some CBA friends both old and
new. Watch for details soon in the upcoming high school
memo.

Field Trip to Brighton Dam
- Wednesday, October 28th -
(Choose between 2 tour times - 10 to 12 or 1 to 3)
This field trip is geared for families and students
of all ages. Brighton Dam is located on the border of
Howard and Montgomery Counties about 2 miles east of New
Hampshire Ave. on Brighton Dam Road. This 2 hour field
trip will present the history of the Tridelphia
Reservior and the Brighton Dam on the Patuxant River. We
will learn about the "human water cycle" from the river,
to the filtration plant, to the home, and back to the
earth.
Following the tour we will hand out maps if families
would like to take a quick run over to nearby
Brookeville, MD (U.S. Capital City for one day on August
26, 1812 when James Madison evacuated the White House
and fled under the British attack during the war of
1812).

CBA School Portrait & Yearbook Pictures
- See your mail flier for dates and locations -
We are delighted to announce that school pictures
will be taken by Mighty Oak Photography this school
year. CBA student pictures (grades K - 11) will be taken
at several sites (see the enclosed flier for details).
All enrolled students are welcome to come and have
individual school pictures taken. There is no cost,
pressure or obligation to purchase. Proofs are provided
and families will have an opportunity to purchase sets
of pictures if they desire. The individual pictures for
students in grades 7th - 11th will also be included in
this year’s Jr./Sr. High Yearbook.
Seniors should have already received information on
portraits. Senior portraits will also be used for the
senior section of the yearbook. If you have any
questions please call the CBA office.
