Special Education Testing and Counseling Services

Cedar Brook Academy, as a ministry to enrolled families and to the Christian community of home-educators, offers some special education services to aid families as they teach their children at home.

Consultations with a Special Education Consultant

Families can set up appointments for personal consultations, specialized diagnostic testing and individualized program development by a licensed and experienced consultant. The consultations provide an opportunity to discuss concerns regarding the learning style or progress of a student. To make this time more productive, it is often helpful to bring along student work samples, any prior testing information and a list of curriculum used in subject areas that are of concern. During the consultation educational recommendations may be offered, modifications in curriculum or teaching methods may be recommended. The consultant may also suggest that the student be given individual aptitude and/or achievement testing in order to clarify learning differences or specific learning difficulties. Please contact the CBA office to get in touch with a consultant. Fees and appointment times are set by the consultant.

Development of an Individualized Educational Program (I.E.P.)

Assistance is offered in the development of a written plan of long term and short term educational goals for the student (an I.E.P.). Curriculum and teaching techniques are outlined and follow up consultations are available. Costs of setting up an I.E.P. vary.

Specialized Testing

Various tests may be suggested or offered in order to assess the student's strengths and weakness and determine achievement levels in academic areas. The costs of these tests vary and options can be discussed with the consultant.
